Eating Local Makes Sense
This is what humans have done forever. The last 50 years of mass produced food, has been an interesting experiment, but one that does not seem to be producing the needed result…..strong health and vitality for the people.
Our Experiments with Growing
“Gardening” for me has changed!
I have been gardening – both flowers and vegetables – since my early twenties.
How is it different now? I am now interested now in communal gardening, whereas before I was content to garden on my own. Maybe it was this that made me an unpredictable gardener. Gardening is a big commitment; it is a lot of work! Gardening together makes more sense and more fun. Three together can do the work of 5 or 6 individually.
On this site we will keep you up to date on what we are doing to grow some of our own food in order to eat locally and joyfully. One of the experiments we are involved in is:
Year ‘round growing, or at the least “Season Extension” (as promoted by Eliot Coleman of Four Season Farm). Can it be done in this climate? Yes, it seems so. It requires a change of mindset and a willingness to see how plants behave in the different seasons. And the plants also require some extra protection – but not as much as you might think, and herein is the fun and experimental part.
